In the heart of our communities in the Diocese of Klerksdorp, where despair and hardship often overshadow hope, the Catholic Mental Health Ministry (CMHM) has become a wellspring of strength and renewal. The journeys of two men, Tebogo Oliphant and Heny Lebeko, stand as living proof that compassion, care, and faith can transform lives once thought lost to struggle.

Tebogo, a 38-year-old father, was once gripped by drugs and alcohol, unable to see how his lifestyle tore at the fabric of his family. His 13-year-old daughter, who looked up to him with innocent trust, was left vulnerable as her father fought silent battles. It was through the Ministry’s mental health awareness and support sessions that Tebogo first found a safe space to confront his struggles. What began as a small step soon became a life-changing journey. Supported with companionship and guidance, Tebogo found the courage to leave behind addiction. The Ministry walked beside him, even helping him secure practical lifelines that restored dignity. Today, Tebogo attends church freely, no longer burdened by shame, and is a father his daughter can once again depend on.

Similarly, Heny, 39, faced a different but equally devastating struggle. Living with chronic illness, he was reduced to scavenging at a dumping site just to find food to take his medication. Human kindness seemed like a forgotten dream—until the Ministry intervened. Visiting his home, the team offered not only material assistance but also steady psychosocial support that helped him rebuild his sense of self-worth and hope. Through ongoing encouragement, listening, and presence, Heny rediscovered human dignity and regained the strength to face his illness with courage. Today, he speaks of a renewed outlook on life and a future his two daughters can now dream of more confidently.

Though Tebogo and Heny’s stories are different, they are bound by the same thread: the healing power of a listening ear and psychosocial support. Where addiction, poverty, and illness once defined their days, the Catholic Mental Health Ministry has ignited a new chapter—one marked by faith, community, and resilience. Their stories echo throughout the community and beyond, inspiring others to return to church, to believe in second chances, and to embrace the truth that no one is ever beyond hope. Through the Ministry, despair is transformed into testimony, and broken lives are being rebuilt with courage and care.
