CATHCA member organizations in Gauteng were trained in NCD’s by SANCDA+ last week.

The subject was “An Introduction to the Grassroots Perspective on the Prevention and Control of Major Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)”. The training was facilitated by South African Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (SANCDA+).

42 members attended representing 14 different Community based organizations. The following content was covered in the training:

  • the impact of NCDs+,
  • what community based organizations such as ours can do to prevent and manage the 5 x 5 in their communities; and
  • the contributions that community based organizations such as ours can make to implement the National Strategic plan for the prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases.

On 9 June, prior to training on major Non Communicable Diseases, Melese Shula of CATHCA and Dr Vicki of SANCAD+ were interviewed by Radio Veritas on the challenges of Non Communicable Diseases in our country.
